Lots of Hats
Kim Ehrman
Phew, this week the many hats that I'm wearing really piled up. Between finishing a reading+discussion curriculum on Monday night, working on a community project Tuesday and Thursday evening, going to a meeting on Wednesday night, and dramatically simplifying my personal website Friday evening, after-hours were too full. All on top of a busy work week. Whoa.
My sister and I sat down to dinner on Friday, both exhausted, and declared it a double-rest weekend. We looked at the to-do list, bumped most of the things on it to Memorial weekend, and took a deep breath.
We typically work on house+life+Lavender Finch things on Saturday and then rest on Sunday. But in times of serious need, we take Saturday off, too.
So today we've gone out to breakfast (The Shack, YES), grabbed begonias to put out on the back deck (Garden Heights, always a delight), quickly mowed the lawn before it the forecasted rain, and SAT DOWN. Rest feels so good.
And I just might be realizing that I need to commit to fewer life+community projects while working for two start-ups. (When you say it out loud, it seems so obvious!) Once each of these projects completes, I'll say a respectful yet firm no to the next request and make a bit of breathing room in life.
Deep breaths, one day and one step at a time.
