Really Enjoying Market Community
Kim Ehrman
As I have several Tower Grove pop-up markets under my belt this year, I've been particularly enjoying repeat visits by folks. Dear friends have been more than generous in stopping by in support (thank you!!!), and acquaintances are feeling more like friends.
A few highlights come to mind:
Two people stopped by, and the woman opened with, "do you remember me?" I said, "of course, Hashtag Grateful!" She'd had a great time telling me a month or two before how she purposely calls hashtags pound signs when talking with her kids, for maximum embarrassment. She had also snagged a Hooray and absolutely loved hearing how a former coworker requested that card specifically. (This time she asked if he has any more ideas; I've asked... we're still working on it. :) ) Then she said, "this is the guy that keeps trying to steal the pen you gave me," so I quickly handed him one of his own.
That short exchange brought a giant smile to my face! I loved that she was using and enjoying the pen I'd thrown in her bag. (It's my favorite giveaway. Hat tip to my sister for the idea.) I loved that she was sending my cards and coming to buy more of them.
I've also run into people who seem familiar from around town and we finally introduce ourselves. One of those was a really kind woman I'd met at Pippin's daycare (yes, I'm that kind of dog mom...), and we finally got more than six seconds to talk. She even purposely stopped by the next time I was at the market to share some personal news, which was so fun!
Last but for sure not least was the moment pictured above. This lovely woman stopped by and shared that the previous day was her birthday and she didn't need the Happy Effing Birthday card but could she just take a picture with it? Of course. We had a great time taking a series of pictures, talking about graphic design and photography and small business life... the list goes on.
It's moments like those that have been such a pleasant surprise of going to the same markets each month. To everyone who stops by: I more than appreciate your generosity.
Here's to more laughs under the Lavender Finch tent real soon.
(The next opportunity: I'll be at the Tower Grove Farmers' Market on July 8, 8:00-12:30!)
